It's estimated that 25,000 to 30,000 shelter animals are killed each year in Clark County alone. More than 65% of the dogs euthanized are identified as "Pit Bulls". The majority are gentle, loving pets who were abandoned to the streets or surrendered by their owners. They are killed simply because the shelters do not have enough room to keep them all.

BULLIE BUDDIES ON DOG FIGHTING

ANATOMY OF DOG FIGHTING

The American Pit Bull Terrier is the most common breed of dog used in dog fighting. Although, fighting dogs average only 40-50 pounds, their jaws are extraordinarily muscular and capable of breaking an opponent's leg. Generations of selective breeding for maximum aggressiveness, combined with cruel training methods and conditioning that can involve the use of steroids and drugs, has resulted in dogs who are capable of inflicting terrible wounds or killing an opponent. Unfortunately, the cruelties of dog fighting begin early in the dog's life and are not limited to the animal being forced to fight.
In a dog fight, two or more dogs are place in a enclosed pit. The dogs are forced to fight before cheering spectators until one dog is too injured or exhausted to continue. Both the winner and loser usually suffer from deep lacerations and multiple puncture wounds.
If a dog had an embarrassing loss, it is not unheard of for the dog to have his throat cut or shot so the breeder won't get a reputation for selling poor-quality fighting dogs. The winning dogs sometimes die as a result of their injuries.

Dog fighters will not take the injured dog to a veterinarian for fear of being reported to the authorities, so owners use tape or suture kits to close the gaping wounds.

LEGISLATION
Dog fighting is a felony in the majority or states. In those states in which dog fighting are not felonies, animal fighters consider misdemeanor fines as merely a business expense. Promoters and trainers simply migrate from states where animal fighting is a felony to states where the penalties are less severe or the law is not aggressively enforced.

VIOLENCE
Law enforcement officials nationwide have documented a strong connection between organized animal fighting and violence. Since spectators wager on the outcome of the fight illegal gambling is the norm at dog fights. The owner of the winning dog can collect any where from several hundred to tens of thousands of dollars in undeclared income. With the presence of so much money it is not uncommon for guns to be present. Young children exposed to this world or cruelty, drugs, gambling, guns, and other violence is another aspect of dog fighting. Children witnessing such brutality can promote insensitivity toward animal suffering and enthusiasm for violence. The presence of dangerously aggressive animals in a community increase the risk if attacks on children, due to their small size, may be perceived as an animal.

ANIMALS FORCE TO FIGHT
They call is a SPORT, but where is the SPORT in watching two dogs attack each other? In recent years, there has been an increase in dog fighting in both urban and rural areas. For reasons unknown, human spectators look upon the suffering and pain these dogs endure as entertainment.

These dogs need our help- Not our hate. Pit Bulls are known to show love and loyalty even after nearly being beaten to death.

Bullie Buddies Of Las Vegas is dedicated to eliminating the needless killing of Pit Bulls.
